We've been recording precise data about the climate for 136 years now. The results are clear: sixteen of the seventeen hottest years were after 2001, the only exception being 1998. Businesses are major actors in society and bear responsibility for reducing global warming and helping shape an economy without carbon emissions.
We need to totally decarbonise our society!
Everyone has a part to play in tackling this huge challenge: citizens, governments and businesses! Businesses must be the driving force behind change and lead the way, with infrastructure projects to reduce the carbon impact of their activities, for example. The business world can also act as a significant lever in raising awareness - among employees, customers, suppliers, etc.
What part can we play as a bank?
- Finance renewable energy projects: wind and solar energy, hydro and biomass.
- Develop solutions to promote energy-efficiency projects: LED lighting, thermal insulation, etc.
- Monitor the potential of carbon capture and storage projects. This potential remains to be quantified, but experts agree that carbon capture forms an essential part of the solution to climate change.
We recently provided support to the companies Ochain Energie and Solvay. See images of these two projects which, although very different in nature, both related to decarbonisation.
Oslo - acting to raise awareness!
From 5 to 7 February 2019, we took 80 Corporate Banking customers to explore Oslo, European Green Capital 2019! The Norwegian capital is bursting with initiatives to reduce the carbon impact. During our three-day visit, we met people who are working today to create the world of tomorrow.
